"The very productive technical discussions between the two countries continue," the US Treasury said in a statement after the meeting, AFP reports.
On April 17, Washington and Kiev signed a "Memorandum of Intent," which is the first step toward a comprehensive agreement on access to Ukraine's natural resources and strategic minerals.
That memorandum mentioned the goal of concluding negotiations by April 26.
Kiev and Washington had planned to sign this agreement a few weeks ago, but a tumultuous meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky in February temporarily halted work.
Trump wants the agreement, which is intended to give the United States a royalty on profits from the exploitation of Ukrainian resources and rare metals, to offset the billions of dollars in military aid provided to Ukraine by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
During his meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Scott Bessent, he also reaffirmed the United States' support for "Ukrainian sovereignty" and stressed the country's commitment to ensuring "lasting peace for the peoples of Ukraine and Russia." | BGNES
