US tariffs of 50% came into effect today on many Indian products, doubling existing tariffs, as President Donald Trump attempted to punish New Delhi for buying Russian oil.

Trump has stepped up pressure on India over its purchase of energy, a key source of revenue for Moscow's war in Ukraine, as part of a campaign to end the conflict, AFP reported.

However, tariff exemptions remain for sectors that may be affected individually, such as pharmaceuticals and computer chips. | BGNES
