Vietnamese airline Vietjet Air to purchase 20 Airbus A330 aircraft

Vietnamese airline Vietjet Air has announced that it will purchase 20 wide-body Airbus A330-900 aircraft, doubling its order from the aviation giant in a deal worth around $8 billion.

The chairwoman of the low-cost airline, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, signed the contract with Airbus in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron, who is on an official visit to Hanoi, AFP reported.
The airline said the order was part of its plans to expand its operations in Asia and introduce future long-haul flights to Europe.
This announcement is in addition to an order for 20 A330-900 aircraft placed by VietJet in February last year.
The airline said the A330 aircraft will allow it to "increase flights on high-capacity routes in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as introduce future long-haul services to Europe."
The aircraft are valued at around €7 billion ($8 billion), an Airbus source said.
"Vietjet remains committed to providing better connectivity and sustainable air transportation for millions of passengers in Vietnam and around the world," Tao said.
Vietjet's fleet currently consists of 115 aircraft, all Airbus, including seven A330-300s serving destinations in Australia, India, and Kazakhstan.
The carrier has an order for 96 more single-aisle A320s from Airbus.
The deal with Vietjet is one of a series of agreements expected to be signed between Vietnamese and French companies during Macron's official visit to the communist country, which was once under French rule. | BGNES
