Weekly meeting of the College of the EC begins ahead of the publication of the convergence report on the euro

The extraordinary report was requested by Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov's government in February.

The weekly meeting of the College of the European Commission has started in Brussels, Belgium, reports BGNES.
After this meeting, the European Commission is expected to give the green light to the convergence report for 2025, so that Bulgaria can adopt the euro from the beginning of 2026.
The extraordinary report was requested by Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov's government in February.
The report has to be voted on by the European Commission. It is expected to confirm that Bulgaria has met the main criteria and is ready to adopt the single currency from 1 January 2026.
This readiness is confirmed by the data of the Bulgarian and European statistics. Inflation in Bulgaria is 2.8% and it is no more than 1.5% above the average inflation in the three best performing countries. Our country meets the other criteria related to the stability of public finances and the exchange rate.
After receiving the green light, the Eurogroup finance ministers will consider the reports of the Commission and the ECB at a meeting on 19-20 June in Luxembourg.
They will also be discussed by EU leaders at the EU summit on 26-27 June.
On 30 June, the European Commission will make a proposal on fixing the exchange rate, which is not expected to be different from the current rate fixed by the currency board.
The final decision on our accession should come on 8 July, when the Eurogroup countries adopt the legislative decisions for the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria. | BGNES
