Denzel Washington may have lost count of the number of films he has starred in, but when it comes to how many films he watches, the answer is quick. The answer is: none, according to CNN.
"I don't watch movies, man. I really don't," the two-time Oscar winner said in a conversation with A$AP Rocky and Spike Lee for a recent GQ video.
After laughter from the rapper and director, Washington continued: "I'm being honest with you. I don't watch movies, man. I don't go to the movies. I don't watch movies."
A$AP Rocky asked him if it was because he makes movies himself. "Probably," Washington replied. "You know, I'm tired of movies."
Lee then interjected with the question of how many films he has made so far, and the actor replied instantly: "Too many." "I think it's about 50," he added.
Washington and Rocky star together in Lee's crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest, which is already in theaters in the US and will be available on AppleTV+ next month.
During the conversation, Rocky recalled his role in Anthony Mandler's crime drama Monster (2018), where he starred alongside Washington's son, John David, and surprised the actor with his memories of their friendship.
"We became very close with your son, John David. He's a great guy and a really good friend," said the rapper.
"So you and John David are close?" Washington asked, and Rocky smiled again. "He doesn't watch movies," Lee interjected jokingly.
Washington assured Rocky that he knew about their collaboration on the film, "but I didn't know you were that close."
Highest 2 Lowest is Washington and Lee's fifth joint project, the first being the 1990 drama Mo' Better Blues.
When Rocky asks him what his favorite movie with Lee is, the actor replies, "I don't have a favorite. I always say—when people ask me, 'What's your favorite movie?', I say the next one. I'm not interested in the past. In fact, I've never watched Mo' Better Blues since its premiere."
And when Lee asks if that applies to all of his films, the actor admits, "I haven't watched any of them from beginning to end."
His upcoming projects include the Netflix action heist story Here Comes the Flood, in which he will star alongside English actors Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones. | BGNES
