Actress Emma Thompson revealed that current US President Donald Trump once asked her out on a date.
The Oscar winner shared this unusual story with the audience at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. It was 1998, and Thompson was in her trailer during the filming of Primary Colors when the phone rang.
"It was Donald Trump. He said, 'Hello, this is Donald Trump'. I thought it was a joke and asked, 'How can I help you? Maybe he needed directions from someone," she recalled.
"Then he said, 'I'd like you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner together.' I replied, 'Well, that's very kind. Thank you very much. I'll call you,'" the actress added.
Both Thompson and Trump were single at the time. The president had just split from his second wife, Marla Maples, and Thompson's divorce from Kenneth Branagh was finalized that same day.
She noted this strange fact and added, "I realized that my divorce was finalized on the same day. He must have people looking for a nice divorced woman to take under his wing. And he found my number in my trailer. I mean, that's stalking."
Thompson, a longtime supporter of the Labour Party and definitely not a fan of Trump, joked, "I could have gone on a date with Donald Trump and then I would have had a story to tell." | BGNES
