Iran received the diplomatic support of the BRICS countries, whose leaders gathered in Rio de Janeiro. The bloc condemned the recent Israeli and US air strikes on military, nuclear and other sites.

"We condemn the military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran since 13 June 2025, which constitute a violation of international law," the leaders said, without naming the US or Israel.

The BRICS leaders called on negotiators to reach a swift and unconditional ceasefire to end the 22-month war in Gaza.

"We call on the parties to engage in good faith in further negotiations to achieve an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire, a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip," the statement said.

The leaders warned that U.S. President Donald Trump's "indiscriminate" import tariffs risk damaging the global economy.

"We express serious concern about the increase in unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures that distort trade and are inconsistent with World Trade Organization rules," the bloc said. | BGNES
