French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will hold trilateral talks before the start of the NATO summit in The Hague. Their meeting will start at 18:15 (Bulgarian time), AFP reports.
France, Britain and Germany are spearheading European efforts to revive negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme. The three leaders travelled together to Kiev in May to show their support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was also due to meet Macron face-to-face in The Hague.
The main topic to be discussed at the meeting will be increasing defence spending. US President Donald Trump is pushing NATO member states to increase spending to 5% of GDP.
The meeting comes amid Trump's announcement of a truce between Iran and Israel after the two countries have been exchanging airstrikes since June 13. However, on 24 June, Israel said Tehran had fired new missiles at its territory. | BGNES
