Over 1,500 hectares burned in Greece

The fire danger is extremely high in the greater Athens area, as well as in the regions of Viotia and Evia.

A huge forest fire that broke out early Friday afternoon in the small town of Keratea, on the eastern outskirts of Athens, has killed one person and caused serious damage. 1,581 hectares of forests and grasslands between Keratea and Anavyssos have been burned, Kathimerini reported.

The fire, brought under control in the early hours of Saturday, claimed the life of a 76-year-old man and damaged houses, cars and property.
