Jamie Vardy will leave relegated Leicester this summer after 13 memorable years at the club, but he has no intention of ending his career.
Vardy leaves the Foxes as the club's greatest ever player. He scored 24 goals in Leicester's 2015/16 Premier League title-winning season under Claudio Ranieri and lifted the FA Cup in 2021 under Brendan Rodgers.
"It's been 13 unforgettable and incredible years at this club with many successes, some failures. The time has inevitably come for me to leave - I'm devastated by it, but I think it's the right time. I just want to thank you all so much for accepting me as one of your own. Leicester will always have a huge place in my heart and I will try to stay close to the club in the years to come - I hope for even more successful days for Leicester. But for now, this is my farewell. See you soon, I promise. Thank you", the 38-year-old said to the Foxes' supporters.
Vardy ends his career at the King Power Stadium with 496 appearances for Leicester after joining from Fleetwood Town in 2012 and was instrumental in the club's most successful period since promotion to the Premier League in 2014. His legacy goes beyond trophies - the Great Escape under Nigel Pearson in 2015, and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League under the late Craig Shakespeare. He scored 18 goals for the Foxes last season as they won the Championship, but has only seven this campaign. Vardy holds the record for most Premier League goals scored by a player over the age of 30, with 109.
A 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday confirmed Leicester's immediate return to the second tier of English football - their second relegation in three seasons. | BGNES
