Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim focused on the positives despite the Red Devils' start to the new Premier League season with a loss. United lost 0:1 to Arsenal at Old Trafford in the first-round derby, but they definitely showed good things and could easily have earned at least a point.
Led by new signings in attack in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as Benjamin Sesko, who came off the bench after the break, Manchester United had 22 attempts on goal, but Gunners goalkeeper David Raya made seven saves, and a mistake by home goalkeeper Altay Bayindir when Ricardo Calafiori scored proved crucial to the final outcome.
"The most important thing is that we weren't boring. I'm really proud of the boys. They were brave in everything they did during the game. Congratulations on the performance, but not on the result because we lost at home. It's clear that we deserved a different result and we have to move on. We were more aggressive compared to last year, we did more sprints, we were braver, we played one-on-one and we pressed high. We had quality when we had the ball. We lost less balls in build-up, where we had a lot of difficulty. We need to win, but this was a completely different game compared to last season", said Amorim after the match.
His Arsenal colleague Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, emphasized the team's solid defensive performance. The Gunners are among the favorites for the title this season after their three consecutive second places in recent years, not allowing a negative result after the victories of Liverpool and Manchester City earlier in the round.
