Tatum undergoes successful Achilles surgery, could miss entire next season

Kevin Durant also suffered a similar injury during the 2019 Finals and did not play next season.

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has undergone successful surgery after suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon that has ruled him out of the rest of the NBA playoffs at this point.

The Celtics announced the severity of the player's injury and the surgery itself a day after he fell to the floor in a non-contact situation late in the final quarter of Game 4 against the New York Knicks. Boston lost the game and is now 1-3 down in the series, and Tatum's chances of playing next season are slim.

He is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 campaign, making a full recovery. Kevin Durant also suffered a similar injury during the 2019 Finals and did not play next season.

Tatum had 42 points before leaving the court in Game 4 against the Knicks. Game 5 is in the champions' arena tonight, with only 13 teams in 293 previous playoff attempts having achieved a complete turnaround in their series. | BGNES
