Liam Payne's fortune goes to his ex-girlfriend Cheryl and their son Bear

At the time of his death, he had amassed a fortune of £28,595,000.

The fate of Liam Payne's £28 million fortune has been revealed after the One Direction singer died without a will.

The 31-year-old Payne, who rose to fame on The X Factor, died after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel, CasaSur Palermo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16, 2024. An investigation in the United Kingdom found that the star died from "multiple injuries."

At the time of his death, Liam had amassed a fortune of £28,595,000. This amount has been significantly reduced to £24,280,000 after expenses and debts were paid off following his death, according to The Independent.

Court documents show that singer Cheryl Tweedy, his former girlfriend and mother of his 8-year-old son Bear, has been appointed as one of the administrators of his estate.

The couple first met on The X Factor in 2008, when Liam was 14 and Tweedy was married to her now ex-husband, footballer Ashley Cole. Payne and Tweedy confirmed their relationship in 2016, shortly after the singer split from her second husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

They welcomed their first child in 2017, and Liam called Bear's birth his "favorite memory" in life.

Due to British inheritance laws, which govern the affairs of those who die without a will, the deceased's estate is usually passed on to their legal spouse or closest relative. Alongside Cheryl, top music lawyer Richard Bray has been named as an administrator.

The assets and funds will likely be held in a trust fund for his son until he comes of age.

At the time of his death, Payne was in a relationship with influencer Kate Cassidy, whom he met in October 2022.

Tweedy issued a statement when news of Payne's death broke.

"As I try to navigate this shocking event and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I would kindly ask everyone to remember that we have lost a human being. Liam was not just a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend, and the father of our seven-year-old son. A son who now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again," she wrote. | BGNES
