Singer Miley Cyrus admitted that she did not plan to make a song with Dua Lipa on her 2020 album "Plastic Hearts."
During an interview on the podcast "Every Single Album," Cyrus was asked, "Why did Dua Lipa end up on the album?" to which she replied that "it wasn't her idea."
"No offense to Dua, but 'Prisoner' just didn't fit on the album. The song would have been much more appropriate for Endless Summer Vacation, and it would have been great on Wildcard or River — can you imagine?" she said of their duet.
"Prisoner" was ultimately included in the reissued version of Dua Lipa's BRIT Award-winning album "Future Nostalgia" following the song's success.
The comment comes amid the recent release of Miley's ninth studio album, "Something Beautiful," on May 30. The album is clearly inspired by Alan Parker's 1982 surreal drama film Pink Floyd: The Wall, which in turn was influenced by Pink Floyd's album of the same name.
Cyrus watched it as a teenager with a few friends; they rented a limousine, smoked weed, and wore 70s-style leather jackets.
"We really got into it. My idea was to do The Wall, but with better costumes," she said in a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar.
Miley will make her debut at the Tribeca Film Festival with the premiere of Something Beautiful, a 55-minute film she co-directed, which features 13 original tracks from her album of the same name.
Naomi Campbell makes a brief appearance in the film. She participates in the song "Every Girl You've Ever Loved," where she performs a recital.
In the trailer for the "one-of-a-kind pop opera," Cyrus walks the streets of Los Angeles and kisses a mysterious character, while Campbell poses in dim light.
At the end of the dramatic promotional clip, Miley asks, "If I remove all the barriers between us, will you promise me that I am enough? If I give you all my love?"
After its premiere in Tribeca, the film will be released in theaters for one night only on June 12 in the US and Canada, and on June 27 in the rest of the world. | BGNES
