Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video series Tomb Raider, the BBC has announced.
The series was created and written by British author Phoebe Waller-Bridge, creator and star of Fleabag. This is the first major project under her contract with Amazon, signed back in 2019.
Tomb Raider is based on the computer game of the same name about the famous fictional adventurer and archaeologist Lara Croft, who has already been played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
Turner said she is "extremely excited" about the opportunity to take on the role.
"She is such an iconic character who means so much to so many people — and I'm giving it my all," the star said.
The actress, who became world famous as Sansa Stark in the epic HBO series Game of Thrones and later played Jean Grey in the X-Men series, added:
"These are huge shoes to fill—to follow in the footsteps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerful performances. But with Phoebe at the helm, we are all in safe hands. I can't wait for everyone to see what we're working on." | BGNES
