Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for the fourth installment of the horror film "The Conjuring: Last Rites" on May 8. However, it may not be the last in the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Like the other films in the Conjuring series, this film is inspired by real cases investigated by paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). This time, the action revolves around the 1986 "Smerl" case, in which a family was harassed by a demon for more than a decade.
"Every case is different. Every family is different. Once we start, there's no turning back. Anything can happen. And most likely will," Ed says in the trailer.
Lorraine hints that this case is the most dangerous, telling Ed that "something is different." At the end of the trailer, the demon tells Lorraine, "We've been waiting for you so patiently, so patiently," before lunging at her.
The film is directed by Michael Chaves, who also directed the latest film in the Conjuring series, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, released in 2021. He has also directed other films in the series, including The Curse of La Llorona and The Nun II. James Wan, director of the first two films, The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, will serve as executive producer. The screenplay is written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Neyng and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Mia Tomlinson (The Lost Kingdom of the Pirates, The Beast Must Die) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) join the cast.
The horror series has been a box office hit, grossing over $2 billion worldwide. The first film, released in 2013, earned nearly $320 million worldwide on a budget of $20 million.
"The Conjuring: The Last Rites" will be released in theaters on September 5 in Imax. | BGNES
