The leader of Bulgaria's largest political force, GERB-SDS, Boyko Borisov, has called on the National Assembly to reject the request for a referendum as quickly as possible, BGNES reported.
President Rumen Radev proposed holding a referendum on the euro late last night.
Borisov said that adopting the euro is an opportunity for Bulgaria.
“Bulgaria expects to receive a positive convergence report in June and will become a member of the eurozone in 2026,” Borisov said.
He criticized President Radev's actions and called on all pro-European parties to unite and reject his request in parliament. Otherwise, Borisov warned, Bulgaria will miss its chance and will not become a member of the eurozone not only in 2026, but also in 2036.
“We want to be at the heart of Europe, not on the periphery, we want to be where decisions are made,” Boyko Borisov emphasized. І BGNES
