The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said after the meeting with the Serbian leadership that her message to the authorities in Belgrade was clear: on the path to the EU, political leaders must implement the necessary reforms and clearly define the strategic direction.
"My message to the authorities in Belgrade is clear. I want to see Serbia move forward towards the European Union. For this to happen, political leaders must implement the necessary reforms and clearly define the strategic direction. This is best achieved by restoring trust and consistency in the implementation of democratic principles," said Kallas.
Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Matsut spoke with Kaja Kallas about “the possibility of accelerating Serbia's European integration process, as well as the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” his office announced.
At the meeting, Matsut “emphasized Serbia's unequivocal European orientation.”
He expressed his conviction that concrete steps along this path would soon be discussed, such as the opening of Cluster 3, which has been awaited for three years.
Matsut also stated that Serbia is fully committed to the reform process in order to harmonize with EU criteria and that he is aware of the importance of reforms, above all for the citizens of Serbia.
The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starovic, EU Special Envoy for the Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Peter Sorensen, and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret.
Kaja Kallas arrived in Belgrade last night. She also met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and representatives of the opposition. | BGNES
