U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has shared information about impending U.S. airstrikes on Yemen in a private chat group on Signal that included his wife, brother and personal attorney.
This was reported by the New York Times.
The report details the second case in which Hegseth is accused of sharing sensitive military information on the commercial messaging app with unauthorized personnel.
Last month, The Atlantic magazine revealed that its editor-in-chief was inadvertently included in a Signal chat in which staffers, including Hegseth and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, discussed the March 15 strikes.
The revelation sparked a scandal, and US President Donald Trump's administration has faced a row over the accidental leak. The Pentagon's inspector general is currently investigating the leak.
"The New York Times claims that Hegseth shared information about the same March 15 strikes with the second group chat on Signal.
The information shared “included the flight schedules of the F/A-18 Hornet aircraft targeting the Houthis in Yemen,” the newspaper said.
The paper said that unlike the accidental leak, in which journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was mistakenly included in the group, this group chat was created by Hegseth. The other chat was initiated by Waltz.
“It included his wife and about a dozen other people from his personal and professional entourage in January, before his confirmation as defense secretary,” the New York Times reported, citing unnamed sources.
Hegseth's wife, Jennifer, is a journalist and former Fox News producer. The group also included his brother, Phil, and Tim Parlatore, who hold positions at the Pentagon.
Parlatore also continues to serve as Hegseth's personal attorney. | BGNES
