The protesting Serbian students, who were cycling, arrived in Strasbourg.
More than a hundred people gathered in Kleber Square to welcome them. On a laid red carpet, people held various placards, most often with the words "Pumpay!" - the slogan of the protest against the regime of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, which has no literal translation, but means "Go ahead, push!" in slang terms.
On 3 April, dozens of protesters set off on bicycles from Novi Sad to seek justice. They cycled 1300 kilometres to address representatives of the European institutions. Their aim is to tell about what is happening in Serbia by handing over a document describing the violations of civil rights in the country.
Around 80 students, as well as members of the academic community, rode their bicycles for days. Serbian flags waved at the head of the column. The group included representatives from all four universities, and about one-fifth of the participants were women.
Tomorrow, 16 April, students will demand justice for the Novi Sad victims in front of the European institutions, observing 16 minutes of silence - one minute for each person who died when the train station's visor collapsed. | BGNES
