Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky held a brief meeting with his US counterpart Donald Trump before the funeral of Pope Francis begins.
This was reported by Zelensky's spokesman to Suspilne.
The meeting lasted only a few minutes as Trump, Zelensky and other world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, joined the funeral ceremony, which began shortly after 11 a.m. EDT
Later, spokesman Sergei Nikiforov confirmed to the media that the meeting between Zelensky and Trump had ended. The two leaders agreed to hold further talks after the service, Sky News reported, citing Vatican sources.
The White House said Trump had a "very productive discussion" with his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky.
Stephen Chung, the White House communications director, said the two presidents "met face-to-face today and had a very productive discussion." "More details on the meeting will follow," Chung said.
Trump and Zelensky have not met in person since a tense meeting in February in the Oval Office in which Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Zelensky for what they called a lack of gratitude for U.S. support in Ukraine's fight against Russia. | BGNES
