Trump announces "complete and comprehensive" trade agreement with the United Kingdom

This trade agreement will be the first since Donald Trump announced significant tariffs on April 2.

US President Donald Trump announced that a "complete and comprehensive" agreement with the United Kingdom is about to be concluded.

"The agreement with the United Kingdom is complete and comprehensive and will strengthen the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come," the US president wrote on social media platform TruthSocial, as quoted by AFP.

"Because of our long history and loyalty, it is a great honor for us to announce the United Kingdom as our first agreement. Many other agreements that are in advanced stages of negotiation will follow!" he added.

The New York Times and Politico published information about an upcoming agreement, citing sources close to the negotiations. According to the Wall Street Journal, it is more of a framework for negotiations for an agreement.

Donald Trump will hold a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House at 10 a.m. local time, 5 p.m. Bulgarian time.

On the British side, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that "negotiations for an agreement between the two sides are continuing at an accelerated pace" and that Johnson "will speak later today," adding that "the United States is an indispensable ally for our economy and national security."
