US President Donald Trump rejected Vladimir Putin's offer to mediate in the conflict between Israel and Iran, saying that the Russian president must first end his own war in Ukraine.

“He actually offered to help as a mediator. I said, ‘Do me a favor, mediate within your own conflict. Vladimir, let's get you set up in Russia, okay? You can worry about the other stuff later,’” Trump told reporters at the White House.

However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov insists that the two did not even talk: “He (Trump) was speaking figuratively. Life is so eventful right now that looking back a few days is like looking back at yesterday.”

Trump also said that a change in the Iranian government “could happen,” but hinted that there was a possibility for negotiations.

“They want to meet, they want to come to the White House — I can do that,” Trump said. | BGNES, AFP
