Trump: Why no regime change in Iran?

US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of regime change in Iran.

US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of regime change in Iran.

"It's not politically correct to use the term 'regime change,' but if the current Iranian regime is unable to make Iran great again, why not regime change?" wrote Trump on the social network Truth.

The president's post is a pivot from announcements by senior administration officials, though Trump did not specifically say the U.S. would undertake regime change.

"This mission is not and was not about regime change," Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters at the Pentagon earlier on June 22.

Vice President J.D. Vance echoed that sentiment, telling ABC, "We don't want regime change."
