An ICE train with 185 passengers derailed in the town of Schwaebisch Gmuend in the state of Baden-Württemberg (West Germany) due to a landslide. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The passengers were evacuated from the train and spent the night in a nearby kindergarten. They were later transported to Plüderhausen by bus, ASB Zeitung reported. The incident occurred at around 11:20 p.m. (local time) when the first two carriages of the train derailed. The landslide, which was about 30 meters wide, did not overturn the wagons. Initially, there was a report of a regional train with 60 passengers and one carriage that was hit by the landslide. However, it was later confirmed that train ICE 510, which had been diverted between Ulm and Stuttgart due to flooding in southern Germany, was affected.
