Kate Middleton talks about her recovery from cancer

She said that cancer survivors tend to show “stoicism,” but noted that “the phase after that is really difficult.”

Catherine, Princess of Wales, compared her recovery from cancer to a “roller coaster” and spoke about the “difficult moments” in her battle with the disease.

Kate, as she is known to everyone, is married to Prince William, heir to the throne. She revealed that she had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in March last year.

After undergoing a course of “preventive chemotherapy,” she revealed in January that she was in remission and gradually returning to her public royal duties, AFP reported.

During her visit to a cancer support center at a hospital in Colchester, East England, the 43-year-old princess told patients, volunteers, and staff that life after cancer treatment is not easy.

"It's like a roller coaster, it's not a smooth ride like you might expect. But it's not, you go through difficult moments and having a place like this, having a support network — whether it's through creativity and singing or gardening, whatever it is — is so valuable and it's wonderful that this community exists," she said.

Kate pointed out that cancer survivors “put on a sort of brave face” and tend to show “stoicism,” but noted that “the phase after that is really difficult.”

“You're no longer necessarily under the control of the clinical team, but you're not able to function normally at home as you may have been used to,” she said.

Last month, Kate, who has three young children with William, withdrew from the Royal Ascot horse races as she continues to recover and gradually return to her duties.

Her 76-year-old father-in-law, King Charles III, announced in early 2024 that he had also been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer.

He has since returned to his public duties but is still undergoing treatment. | BGNES
