Mayor of North Macedonia’s Capital, Bulgarian Citizen Danela Arsovska, Attacked in Skopje

The incident occurred in Skopje’s Čair district while she was performing her official duties — inspecting an illegal building located across from the local police station.

Danela Arsovska, Mayor of North Macedonia’s capital Skopje and a Bulgarian citizen, was attacked this afternoon, BGNES reported.

The incident occurred in Skopje’s Čair district while she was performing her official duties — inspecting an illegal building located across from the local police station.

The Bulgarian state is obliged to provide legal and consular protection.

“In front of the police officers, I was kicked and threatened with rape and the murder of my entire family,” Arsovska said after leaving the Emergency Center of the "September 8th" City General Hospital. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that two assailants have been detained.

BGNES reminds that this is not the first incident involving a Bulgarian citizen. Following the arson attack on the “Ivan Mihaylov” cultural club, Hristiyan Pendikov was severely beaten.

Arsovska has faced repeated attacks due to her Bulgarian citizenship since her 2021 election campaign, when she was nominated by VMRO-DPMNE, opposing then-Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

Shortly after assuming office, Arsovska entered into open conflict with VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, whom she refused to obey. The attacks against her intensified sharply after Mickoski became Prime Minister. | BGNES
