Over 100,000 people will attend the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide committed by Serbian forces in 1995.
Five more newly identified victims will be buried. The event will also include the traditional "Peace March".
BGNES recalls that in the early 1990s, former Yugoslav dictator Slobodan Milosevic, whose propaganda minister was Aleksandar Vucic, launched devastating wars in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. Hundreds of thousands were driven from their homes.
In July 1995, over 8,000 Muslim men and boys were massacred or shot in the space of a few days by Serbian forces who had captured Srebrenica, which was supposed to be a UN “safe area” guarded by Dutch peacekeepers. | BGNES
