Rapper P Diddy's request to postpone his trial was rejected

On April 14, the rapper and music producer pleaded not guilty to two new charges added to his racketeering and human trafficking case.

The federal judge in the case against Sean "Diddy" Combs on human trafficking for sexual exploitation and other charges rejected the music mogul's request to delay his trial by two months, saying he had ample time to prepare.

On April 14, the rapper and music producer pleaded not guilty to two new charges added to the racketeering and human trafficking case: one new charge of human trafficking for sexual exploitation and one of transportation for prostitution.

Judge Aaron Subramanian said the extensive trial of Combs, 55, who has been accused by several women, is scheduled to begin May 5. It is expected to last eight to 10 weeks.

So far, the rapper has denied all charges, insisting the sexual acts were consensual. He nodded his head vigorously when the judge reminded the courtroom that Combs was innocent until proven otherwise.

"It is unclear why there is not enough time, especially given the four law firms now representing Mr Combs," the judge said at the preliminary hearing.

Combs's lead attorney, Mark Agnifilo, said an extension was needed to examine new evidence.

"The new conduct alleged is not new," the judge said in response.

Combs wore gray prison garb, his hair and beard graying as he swayed from side to side, at one point turning to kiss his mother, Janice.

Also in court was attorney Brian Steele, who had just reached a successful plea deal for the Young Thug performer who was facing decades in prison. He did not speak.

The public accusations against Grammy winner Combs have been piling up since late 2023, when singer and actress Cassie, whose real name is Cassandra Ventura, alleged that he subjected her to more than a decade of coercion through physical force and drugs, as well as rape in 2018.

Along with the federal criminal case, Combs faces a mountain of civil lawsuits alleging staggering abuse by the contractor using a loyal network of employees and associates.
