Brutal scenes of violence perpetrated by supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) against protesting citizens last night.
In Bačka Palanka and Vrbas, SPP activists attacked residents and students with wrenches, pyrotechnics, stones, bottles and other objects.
One of the most shocking scenes comes from the Belgrade district of Vračar, where a police cordon in riot gear pushed back citizens gathered in front of the SPP office. A video showed one of the officers hitting a woman.
There were also clashes with SPP supporters in Novi Sad.
In Belgrade, citizens gathered in front of the local party committee. A police cordon was already waiting for them in front of the building, while the crowd chanted: "Who are you protecting?"
Several of the protesters were injured. According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, police officers were also injured.
BGNES recalls that the mass protests against the regime of Aleksandar Vučić began after 16 people died when the canopy of the Novi Sad railway station collapsed on November 1, 2024. The building had been officially opened only four months earlier, after a three-year reconstruction. | BGNES
