Thousands in Athens Rally for Palestine Against Israeli Offensive

Participants carried placards expressing support for Palestine and voicing anger at Israeli actions.

Chants of “Gaza Stands Unyielding” echoed through Athens as thousands of demonstrators gathered at Syntagma Square in solidarity with Palestinians facing Israel’s genocidal war in the besieged enclave, Anadolu Agency reported.

Participants carried placards expressing support for Palestine and voicing anger at Israeli actions. Among the chants were “The Terrorist (Israel) State Is Not an Ally,” “Victory for Palestine,” and “Freedom for Palestine.”

Dimitris Koutsoumpas, leader of the opposition Greek Communist Party (KKE), addressed the crowd: “It is unacceptable for the Greek government to support the genocide and starvation of the Palestinian people, strengthening a military criminal through its allies. This must stop here and now, by ending all cooperation with the murderous state.”

“A free Palestinian state must be recognized within the 1967 borders, according to the unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament in 2015,” he added.

Since October 2023, Israeli forces have killed over 62,000 Palestinians in Gaza, where famine has been officially confirmed and the territory devastated and uninhabitable. | BGNES
