Sweden, Germany advance to the knockout stages in Switzerland

Sweden beat Poland in Group C, while Germany was victorious against Denmark.

Sweden have booked their place in the knockout stages of the Women's European Championship in Switzerland. In Lucerne, the Scandinavians convincingly defeated Poland 3:0 in a Group C match.

Stina Blakstenius opened the scoring for Sweden in the 28th minute, before Kosovare Asllani and Lina Hurtig scored after the break.

Sweden are top of the group with six points, the same as second-placed Germany after their 2:1 win over Denmark in Basel. Amalie Vangsgaard gave the Danes the lead, but in the second half the opposition made a complete turnaround through Sjoeke Nusken and Lea Schüller.

Sweden and Germany will decide the group winner in a head-to-head clash on 12 July in Zurich. In the quarter-finals, the winner of Group C will play the second-placed team from Group D, and the second-placed team from Group C will play the first-placed team from Group D. | BGNES
