Turkey's Disciplinary committee chief resigns over "hostile" Mourinho remarks

Celal Nuri Demirturk was seen celebrating among friends in a Galatasaray shirt after the derby with Fenerbahce.

The head of Turkey's disciplinary committee has officially resigned after text messages addressed about Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho were leaked.

Sky Sports News recently reported that Celal Nuri Demirtürk would step down from his post at the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). This was confirmed earlier this week, with Basbug Pinarbasi named as Demirtürk's successor.

The extraordinary shake-up came after Fenerbahce described as "hostile" statements about Mourinho in leaked WhatsApp conversations between committee members. The TFF has yet to comment on the incident.

"We believe that this hostility, which clearly violates the principle of impartiality and is based on revenge, has no place in Turkish sport," the statement from Fenerbahce said.

The WhatsApp exchange is related to an exclusive interview Mourinho gave to Sky Sports News after the Portuguese specialist was given a four-match ban (later reduced to two) in February. "After the derby, I was banned for four matches. Then it became public that the head of the Disciplinary Committee was celebrating among friends in a Galatasaray shirt. It was leaked on social media. Then my four-match ban was instantly reduced to two. Only here can you understand the dimension of the situation", Mourinho said at the time. | BGNES
