Some Danish high school students will be able to use artificial intelligence in their oral English exams starting in 2026, the Ministry of Education has announced.
During the exam, students will be able to use AI in the preparatory phase of the oral exam: after the topic has been drawn, each student will have one hour to prepare, during which "all tools, including generative AI, are allowed," which was not possible until now.
The student will then have to give an oral presentation to the examiner, AFP reported.
Denmark, which has allowed controlled use of the internet during exams since 2008, is seeking to promote digital development in education through a strict framework.
"We are starting these experiments to find the right balance," said Minister Mathias Tesfaye.
"When students develop simultaneously in the analogue and digital worlds, we prepare them in the best possible way for the reality after school," he added.
This experiment is open to high schools that sign up voluntarily and applies only to the general education programme. | BGNES
