Iranian President Pezeshkian: Israel tried to kill me

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Israel, which fought Tehran for 12 days last month, tried to kill him.

“Yes, they tried. They acted with that intention, but they failed,” Pezeshkeshian told American media mogul Tucker Carlson, as quoted by AFP.

“It is not the US that is behind the attempt on my life. It is Israel. I was at a meeting... they tried to bomb the area where the meeting was taking place,” he said, according to a translation of his statement from Persian, in an apparent reference to an alleged assassination attempt during the recent war.

On June 13, Israel launched an unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran, killing senior military commanders and nuclear scientists.

The Israeli attacks came days before Tehran and Washington were set to meet for a new round of nuclear talks that began on April 12.

According to judicial authorities, more than 900 people were killed in Iran during the conflict.

The Israeli attacks triggered a wave of retaliatory drone and missile strikes that killed 28 people in Israel, according to authorities.

During the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, along with the US, strikes were carried out on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.

During the interview with Carlson, Pesezhkian stressed that his country “has no problem” resuming nuclear negotiations, provided that trust between the two sides is restored.

"We see no problem in resuming negotiations. There is a condition for resuming negotiations. How can we trust the United States again? We have returned to the table, but how can we be sure that during the negotiations the Israeli regime will not again be given permission to attack us," he concluded. | BGNES
