Jessie J plays her first show since breast cancer surgery

The 37-year-old pop star was emotional when she returned to the stage for the first time after being diagnosed with cancer.

Jessie J was emotional as she returned to the stage for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer.

The 37-year-old pop star underwent surgery for early-stage breast cancer in June, and during her appearance at Radio 2 In The Park in Essex, southeast England, over the weekend, she shared with her fans how much it meant to her to be back on stage.

"Some of you may know, some of you may not, but today marks 11 weeks since I had surgery for breast cancer. During my last show, I had no idea what was going to happen, and I'm still in the process of recovering, but I'm definitely not ready for Babins. I want to say I'm ready, but my doctors are telling me, 'Calm down, girl. ' You know what I mean, you can take the girl out of Essex, but you can't take Essex out of the girl. But I'm so grateful to be here, you have no idea how grateful I am to see so many of you singing along with me after all these years. I really feel like a little kid. I'm still doing what I love," the singer said.

Jessie brought her two-year-old son Sky on stage, telling fans: "And another special thing that's happening today is that my son is seeing me sing on stage for the first time."

She then performed her new song "Living My Best Life."

"The theme of this song is that I was diagnosed literally two weeks before it came out, and everyone said, 'Let's put everything on hold,' and I said, 'That's not what life is about. Life is about standing in the storm, but holding your umbrella and just moving forward. And music, I don't know about you, but for me, music is a healer. Music is what makes me want to wake up in the morning and makes me excited about life. And I'm grateful that I can create music that gives other people something they might need on a difficult or a good day," said the singer.

"This song is called 'Living My Best Life,' and that's exactly what I do every day. Because we never know when our last day will come, so enjoy the moment and hug the people you love tightly," she added. | BGNES
