Although superheroes are often thought of as invincible, Scarlett Johansson wants to remind everyone that some heroes should get their final goodbye.
The "Lost in Translation" star answered the incessant questions surrounding her Marvel Cinematic Universe heroine Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, who died onscreen in 2019's "The Avengers: Endgame," reports CNN.
"Natasha is dead. She's dead. She's dead. Do you understand?" she joked.
For those keeping track, her heroine - a highly skilled assassin - was a key part of the superhero team known as The Avengers, who gave her life to obtain the Infinity Stone, which ultimately defeated the alien supervillain Thanos and saved the universe.
As Marvel lays the groundwork for the next phase of the film universe - beginning with this summer's Fantastic Four: First Steps," there has been plenty of speculation about Natasha's potential return to the franchise.
Johansson was quick to dispel that speculation.
"Fans just don't want to believe that. They say, 'But she could come back!" she says.
"Look, I think the balance of the whole universe is held in her hand. We'll have to let her go. She saved the world. Let her have her heroic moment," the actress added.
The refreshed Avengers cast will debut in 2026 with "Avengers: Judgment Day" which will mark Robert Downey Jr's return to the Marvel universe, but not as Iron Man, whom he has portrayed in 9 films since 2008. He'll be reprising his role as the villainous Dr. Doom. | BGNES
