Filming has begun on the Harry Potter television series, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027. This will be the first time the world-famous series has been adapted for the small screen.

The new series is based on the hugely popular books that have already inspired both blockbuster films and stage productions. Filming is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Britain, the studio said.

Although the exact date has not yet been confirmed, the series will be available on the streaming platform HBO Max, AFP reported.

The story follows the boy wizard Harry Potter, who is torn from the ordinary, non-magical world and immersed in a magical reality, where he, along with his close friends Ron and Hermione, faces the forces of darkness.

Starring bestselling author J.K. Rowling among the executive producers, the series is conceived as a "decade-long series" with an entirely new cast.

Potter will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton will take on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley.

They will be joined by established stars such as John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

In recent years, Rowling has been accused of transphobia because her comments about trans women emphasize biological sex rather than gender identity. She denies the accusations. | BGNES
