Trump: I would like to be the next pope

Donald Trump joked that he would be his "first choice" for the next leader of the Catholic Church.

"I would like to be pope," he said, before sharing his opinion on who should actually take on the role.
Trump, who, in addition to being quite busy as president of the United States, is a billionaire and has been married three times, is obviously unlikely to be elected head of the Catholic Church, Politico writes.
The nearly 2,000-year-old institution is currently looking for a new spiritual leader following the death of Pope Francis this month.
When asked who should replace Francis, Trump replied, "I have no preference," but added, "I have to say we have a cardinal who happens to be from New York and is very good, so we'll see what happens."
New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan is not considered one of the favorites to succeed Francis. There has never been a pope from the US.
Prominent Republican Senator Lindsey Graham appeared to endorse Trump's chances for the papacy, saying on social media that he was "excited to hear" about it.
"This would truly be a surprise candidate, but I would ask the papal conclave and Catholics to approach this possibility with an open mind!" Graham said.
"The first combination of a pope and a US president has many advantages. We await white smoke... Trump MMXXVIII!" he added. | BGNES
