French Foreign Minister on official visit to Kyiv

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has arrived in Kyiv for a two-day visit to support Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion.

Barrot is expected to meet with his counterpart Andriy Sibiga, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and newly appointed Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

"Following the unprecedented sanctions adopted by France and the European Union against Russia, the minister will review France's support for Ukraine," the French Foreign Ministry said in a press release quoted by AFP.

The EU adopted a new package of sanctions against Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine, reducing the price cap on Russian oil exported to third countries worldwide by 15% below market value.

Barro arrived shortly after the air raid alert was lifted in Kyiv following another night of Russian attacks that killed at least one person in the capital.

"As Russian forces continue to strike Ukraine's energy infrastructure, threatening its security and that of the European continent, the minister will visit the Chernobyl nuclear power plant," the French Foreign Ministry said.

France contributed to the repair of the radiation cover at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which was hit by a Russian drone in February in an attack that did not result in a radiation leak. | BGNES
