Two Swedish planes landed a few minutes ago at Plovdiv Airport, reported the BGNES correspondent in Plovdiv.
Their crews arrived to help Bulgaria in its fight against the devastating fires. The planes will be sent to Strumyani, where the situation is most critical.
Earlier, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said that the two planes will remain in Bulgaria throughout August to help in case of need.
139 fires have been registered in Bulgaria over the past 24 hours. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Interior Tony Todorov.
The fires in the Haskovo and Yambol regions have now been brought under control thanks to the rapid and adequate intervention of the firefighting teams. "We can say that the situation there is a little calmer," added Deputy Minister Todorov.
The work of the firefighting teams in the village of Ploski, where 400 people were evacuated, was highly praised. Thanks to their active work, the fire there was stopped 100-150 meters from the village of Sandanski.
The most critical point in the country at the moment is the fire in Strumyani. "That is why six helicopters will be working there. Three are already on site, two are expected to take off any minute now, and the sixth is flying there at the moment," he said.
Deputy Minister Todorov explained that there is a problem with the Swedish aircraft: "Their arrival has been postponed until 11:30 a.m. They will definitely be useful to us. They are currently in the Romanian city of Timisoara." | БГНЕС
