The 28-year-old Portuguese footballer of Liverpool Diogo Jota died early this morning in a traffic accident in the Spanish province of Zamora, the world media reported
The accident occurred at kilometer 65 of the A-52 highway, near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria.
Jota was in the car with his brother Andre, a 26-year-old professional footballer who plays for the Portuguese Penafiel. The car left the road and caught fire after impact.
According to witnesses who called 112, the car was engulfed in flames that also spread to nearby vegetation.
Less than two weeks ago, Diogo Jota married his long-time girlfriend.
The striker was a key figure for Liverpool and the Portuguese national team. He began his professional career at Paso de Ferreira, then moved to Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining Liverpool in 2020. With the Reds, he made over 120 appearances and scored 47 goals, becoming the champion of Anglia. At international level, he has 49 caps and 14 goals for Portugal, being part of the squad that won the Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
