Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk Admit Mistake in Their First Year of Marriage

In an open conversation on the actress’s podcast Goop, Paltrow, 52, shared that if she could go back, she would not make that mistake again.

Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk admitted that they regret their decision not to live together during the first year of their marriage, Page Six reported.

In an open conversation on the actress’s podcast Goop, Paltrow, 52, shared that if she could go back, she would not make that mistake again. “I think at the time we really believed we were doing the right thing. We were trying to ‘land the plane’ very smoothly and slowly and make everyone feel comfortable. But I’m not sure that in doing so we didn’t prolong the moment of uncertainty — as if we didn’t know what we were doing. What do you think?” she asked her husband.

The American Horror Story creator, Falchuk, 54, agreed with her and explained that they had made that decision at the time because of their children from previous marriages. Looking back, he believes that living separately gave the children “too much power.” “I think having freedom is very important. But having the power to prevent two adults from living together? That made them more insecure and more convinced that something was unstable,” he added.

The two agree that they would have acted differently, but note that today their blended family is in excellent harmony.

Paltrow and Falchuk married in 2018 after a four-year relationship. The businesswoman has two children with her former husband Chris Martin — daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19. The director has a daughter, Isabella, and a son, Brody, with his former wife Suzanne Bukinik.

The Shakespeare in Love actress also shared that she and Isabella now have a “fantastic” relationship, even though in the beginning she felt as though her stepdaughter was “testing” her. “I had decided simply to be that stable figure for her — always loving and forgiving, even when she behaved defiantly. And always showing her that I’m there for her, so she would never doubt my intentions,” Paltrow said.

How far their relationship has come was shown by the actress with a touching message for Isabella’s 21st birthday.

“Happy birthday, my sunshine,” the Iron Man star wrote in Instagram Stories over a photo of the two of them together. “You’ve taught me so much about love. I am lucky to be your stepmom.”
