Barcelona took their first wrong step in defending their title in the Spanish La Liga. In a match from the third round of the championship, the Catalans only managed to draw 1:1 away at Rayo Vallecano.
The match began without the VAR system due to technical problems. At the end of the half, the technology could have been of help to the first referee, who awarded a penalty for a foul against Lamine Yamal. The European champion with Spain, who will face the Bulgarian national team this week, shouldered the responsibility and opened the score for Hansi Flick's team. After the break, however, the hosts managed to make it 1:1 through reserve Fran Perez.
Thus, Barca failed to escape again as they did in the turnaround against Levante in the last round, and is fourth with seven points, two behind the leader Real Madrid, who together with Athletic Bilbao are the only two teams without an error. Rayo is in tenth place with four points. In the next round, Madrid will visit Osasuna, while Blaugranas will host Valencia.
