Liverpool finalizes Alexander Isak transfer for a record £125 million

"It's been a long journey to get here," Isak said. "But I'm very happy to be part of this team, this club, and everything it represents. I'm proud of that and can't wait to get started."

Liverpool has completed the transfer of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak in a deal that sets a British record of £125 million, Sky Sports reported.

The amount surpasses the previous record of £115 million that Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023 and puts an end to the longest-running saga of this transfer window. Newcastle announced the transfer in a brief 37-word statement, without thanking the player or mentioning his achievements:

"Newcastle United announces the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant fee, setting a British record. The Swedish international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and has played 109 games in all competitions."

Isak will wear the number 9 shirt and has signed a six-year contract with Liverpool, bringing the club's spending this summer to £446 million. Player sales have brought in £228 million, making the net expenditure £218 million.

"It's been a long journey to get here," Isak said. "But I'm very happy to be part of this team, this club, and everything it represents. I'm proud of that and can't wait to get started."

"I'm just happy that it's finalized and that I can get back to work. I'm looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans and getting back on the pitch. I think I have a lot to give and a lot to improve on. I'm a striker, but I always want to give as much as possible to the team – mainly goals, but much more than that. I want to win everything," added Isak.

Meanwhile, Marc Guehi's transfer to Liverpool on the last day of the transfer window fell through after Crystal Palace failed to find a replacement for the center back. | BGNES
