Carlos Alcaraz withstood all of Novak Djokovic's attacks to qualify for his second US Open final and deny the 38-year-old Serb the chance to win a record 25th Grand Slam title, Sky Sports reported.
Djokovic was aiming to overcome the 16-year age gap in his fourth Grand Slam semifinal this season, but his Spanish opponent won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
The Serbian had two days off to prepare for the match, but Alcaraz showed excellent form in New York, not losing a single set until the semifinals, and once again played a brilliant match, depriving the former world number 1 of a chance to win his fifth US Open title .
This was revenge for Alcaraz after his losses to Djokovic in the Olympic gold medal final and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
"It's great to be back in the US Open final, it's incredible. It means a lot to me. I would say it wasn't my best level, but I served really well today and that was very important," Alcaraz said.
The match attracted a lot of attention – among the spectators at Arthur Ashe Stadium were actor Hugh Jackman and singer Jon Bon Jovi. | BGNES
