Dimitrov overcomes an Austrian to set up Sinner showdown at Wimbledon

The Bulgarian reached the Round of 16 in London for the fifth time in his career.

Grigor Dimitrov reached the round of 16 of the Grand Slam tennis tournament - Wimbledon. The Bulgarian qualified for the fifth time and third consecutive time to this stage after a victory over Sebastian Ofner from Austria with 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (0). The first match between the two lasted a little over two hours.

The match on Court 3 was initially delayed due to rain over London, and then temporarily interrupted due to inconsistent weather conditions, but in the end this did not prevent Grigor from recording a clear victory over the 165th in the world rankings. In the first two sets, the Bulgarian needed one break in each of them to guarantee a solid lead in the result. In the third, Ofner was the most equal, reaching an early break, but it was instantly returned by his opponent. The Austrian reached a tiebreak, but failed to take a single point in it.

Dimitrov finished with 15 aces, 34 winners and 13 unforced errors. He will play in the fourth round of the All England Club for the fifth time in his career after 2014, 2017, 2023, 2024 and now 2025. His opponent in the dispute for a place in the quarterfinals is world number 1 Jannik Sinner, who earlier today again defeated convincingly his rival - this time Pedro Martinez, giving him a total of five games.

The Italian leads 4-1 in direct clashes with Grigor, with their last match being at Roland Garros last year, when Sinner won in straight sets. | BGNES
