Liverpool have signed striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, the English champions have announced. He will join Anfield for a guaranteed fee of €80m. His contract includes a further €15m in bonuses.
The 23-year-old has become the Merseyside club's main target after it became clear that Newcastle were not interested in parting ways with Alexander Isak. The Magpies were among the candidates for Ekitike, but their offer was rejected by Eintracht.
The Frenchman's contract will be for 6 years. Now he will have to apply for a work visa and travel to Hong Kong, where the team is on a pre-season tour. He is the fifth new signing after Florian Wirtz, Jeremy Frimpong, Milos Kerkes and Armin Perry.
"Yugo deserved this transfer and it shows that we are able to offer the players a great perspective in their growth. This is a strong story for him and Eintracht Frankfurt, because he is moving to one of the best European teams with the greatest ambitions and opportunities," said Eintracht (FR) sporting director Markus Krosch.
Last season, Ekitike played in 48 matches in all competitions for Eintracht. In them, he scored 22 goals and made 12 assists in 3644 minutes on the pitch.
With this transfer, the money spent on purchases from Liverpool is already approaching the impressive nearly 350 million, as the club continues to actively renew its attack and it is not excluded that more players will dock at Anfield. | BGNES
