Tsitsipas splits with Ivanisevic after less than two months

The Greek has only one quarter-final in his last nine Grand Slam appearances.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has parted ways with coach Goran Ivanisevic after less than two months, the former world number three announced. "Working with Goran Ivanisevic was a short but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey", Tsitsipas wrote on his Instagram story.

World number 29 Tsitsipas appointed Ivanisevic as his coach in May after a string of disappointing Grand Slam results. The 2021 Roland Garros and 2023 Australian Open finalist was forced to retire from Wimbledon in June with a back injury while trailing by two sets to Frenchman Valentin Royer. After Greece's best male player was eliminated, Ivanisevic slammed the 26-year-old, saying he had never seen a "more unprepared player" in his life. Tsitsipas has reached just one quarterfinal in his last nine Slam appearances.

The Greek thanked Ivanisevic "for the time, effort and energy he has dedicated to me and my team". "As we go our separate ways, I have nothing but respect for Goran - not only for what he has achieved in tennis, but also for the kind of person he is. I wish him all the best for the future".

Ivanisevic, who won Wimbledon in 2001, helped Novak Djokovic win nine of his 24 Grand Slam titles before leaving the Serbian's team in March last year. He then had a brief stint with world number 12 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan earlier in 2025. | BGNES
