Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the English Europa League final. At the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spurs achieved their fourth success against United this season and reached their first trophy since 2008, when Dimitar Berbatov's goal helped the London team win the League Cup against Chelsea.
"The Red Devils started the match more actively, but after about 10 minutes Tottenham picked up the turnover and managed to carry the game in front of Onana's goal. However, clean chances were lacking. Manchester United came to a good opportunity to take the lead in the 16th minute when after a corner kick Harry Maguire deflected the ball to Amad Diallo who fired a diagonal shot, but it went wide of the target.
Towards the end of the first half, the game became tight and there were no interesting chances. However, 3 minutes before the end of the half Tottenham player Pape Sar crossed the ball, did a double pass with Richarlison and after the ball was at his feet again centred into the penalty area. The Red Devils' defence totally failed to react, and after a curious play by Brennan Johnson, the ball ricocheted into Luke Shaw, and then the Tottenham player again managed to touch it and finish into the United net.
The 20-time English champion picked up the pace in the second half. In the 60th minute, Bruno Fernandez centred dangerously from a foul, but Yoro failed to deliver a quality shot to beat Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario.
In the 69th minute, United reached perhaps their clearest position when, after a mistake by Vicario, the ball ended up on the head of Rasmus Hoylund, who headed it towards goal but Micky van de Ven, with an acrobatic run, cleared it inches before it crossed the goal line.
In the 72nd minute, Mazraoui's centering found the uncovered United captain Fernandez, in the penalty area, who after a header missed the target. Two minutes later, Alejandro Garnacio, who came on as a substitute, broke in from the left, went inside and fired dangerously but his shot was parried by Vicario.
In the last minute of added time, Luke Shaw managed to head the ball in, but the Tottenham keeper was again unshakeable. On the ensuing corner, Casemiro tried an acrobatic run but failed to find the back of the net. After the execution, the referee gave the final whistle that sealed Tottenham's triumph. | BGNES
